Pixel 6 can’t fly some DJI drones because of an incompatible app
2 min readNot really unusual for some cellular applications to stop working on newer phones, especially if the application has not been updated in years. This is a completely different situation, however, if the application in question comes from large and popular brands that support the latest smartphones. That was a rather confusing situation and wiped out the owner of Pixel 6 and the new Pixel 6 suddenly found themselves after finding that they could no longer fly their DJI drone. Company response, however, adds to insults to injury.
On the one hand, it might not be too surprising for DJI owners and fans who have oversee the company’s products. Officially, even Pixel 5 is registered on a cellular device supported by the company, after all. On the other hand, the phone works well with the Dji Fly application, so the owner of Pixel 6 cannot be blamed for expecting the same situation with the latest leading Google.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t the problem, and the owners of several DJI models were forced to decide between their new calls and their favorite drones. Some such owners report that DJI flying applications only show black screen instead of ordinary video feeds, making practical applications useless. In fact, some reported that other DJI applications also fell immediately on the 6 cellphone pixels.
Dronedj reported that DJI representatives suggested using other cellphones just to be able to use the DJI Fly application. Not surprisingly, which is filled with hard criticism and counterattack because not everyone has the capacity to keep other cellphones just to fly drones. DJI can always argue that never promised the pixel 6 to be compatible with the application, but some buyers can check the technical specifications first, especially if they are not located in a place that can be found.
There is also a mystery why the application will not function on pixels 6 in the first place, especially if it doesn’t have a problem working on other Android phones. This is especially confusing considering this is the superior Google, not an old cellphone from several well-known companies. As one person said it, there will be a greater upstream if it is found that the DJI application does not support the iPhone 13.
Dji did admit this problem and at least promised to pay attention to him and resolve it as soon as possible. That said, it also added that “if you bother you a lot,” the affected users must borrow or use compatible phones, echo previous recommendations. This was clearly a disappointing response and almost insulting, and it did not really inspire a lot of hope if Pixel 5 years ago has not been added to the official list in the first place.
