US blocks companies aiding Chinese military's quantum computing efforts

The US takes extra steps to prevent the Chinese military prevent the dominance of quantum computing. The Ministry of Commerce has added eight technology producers to a list of entities to prevent them from supporting the efforts of Chinese military quantum computing. Officials worry that entities can feed “emerges” US technology that can help with broken encryption, produce ‘unsolved’ encryption and develop anti-stealth or anti-submarine systems.

This list focuses on the combination of companies and researchers, including the Hefei Quantumctek and National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at Microscale. The US also added three Affiliates Corad Technology Limited, a Chinese company in the list since 2019, although it is not clear that quantum computing is involved – also accused of supporting Iranian and North Korea’s Military and Space programs “in front of the company.”

Update of a broader entity list includes 27 organizations and people, including 13 in Pakistan accused of supporting nuclear or ballistic missile programs in the country “insecure”.

It is not possible to stop the use of the Chinese military from quantum computing when the state may need to research and develop a lot of technology at home. However, the expanded blocklist might slow everything by limiting China’s access to American processors and other equipment that can track development. Consider this as a stumbling stone that gives us a better chance to take or maintain excellence.
